Week 1: Resolution Recipe Review

Here's a link to the actual recipes in case you missed them.

Penne with Sausage, Garlic and Broccoli Rabe

There's no substitute for real sausage. Anything that isn't sausage, but implies that it is a sausage product (i.e. turkey sausage) should be avoided at all costs. In the end, the few calories saved weren't worth the sacrifice in flavor. This recipe also needed more fresh garlic, some garlic powder and a sprinkle of pecorino romano.

This isn't a new recipe for us, I think eating stuff like this is a hazard of growing up Italian; although this is the first time I've ever used a "recipe" to make this dish. I think I like the family way of doing things better.

Carne Asada Taco with Avocado Pico de Gallo

Not for nothing, but this recipe kind of sucked. Now part of this might have been our fault. I told the husband we couldn't marinate the meat overnight (acid from limes = beef jerky) but he thought it would be okay. It wasn't.

The avocado pico de gallo was awesome. But you don't really need a recipe for that. It's pretty simple to make. This recipe didn't make the cut; we took it out of our binder and threw it away.

Mongolian Beef

We've actually made this recipe several times before; definitely a keeper. It's so easy to make, takes about 25 minutes to prepare (including chopping meat and veggies) and it's ridiculously yummy. We always add more ginger to the recipe; ginger makes everything taste better.
