Pee in a Cup to get a Check

I just read this article about proposed legislation that would require Welfare Recipients to be Drug Tested in order to qualify for assistance. Of course this puts politicians in a tizzy. I definitely have my opinions on the subject - I mean if people have to drug test in order to work at major corporations (or even McDonald's for that matter) shouldn't they have to test in order to get public assistance? Opponents of the legislation say it will deter people from applying for welfare and break up families in a time of an already dire recession. What are your thoughts on this?
